Herbert Danninger is retired professor for Chemical Technology of Inorganic Materials at Technische Universität Wien, Vienna, Austria. He has been active in powder metallurgy research and education for more than 40 years and is author/co-author of 550+ publications as well as several books and book chapters. From 2009 to 2020 he was also chairman of “Gemeinschaftsausschuss Pulvermetallurgie”, the PM association of the German-speaking countries He holds honorary doctoral degrees of Technical University Cluj-Napoca, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and Universitatea din Craiova and is Fellow of APMI and EPMA. In 2020 he was awarded the “Ivor Jenkins Medal” of IOM3 and in 2022 the “Richard Zsigmondy Medal” of TU Wien.

Steve holds a bachelor’s degree and Ph.D. in Metallurgy from the University of Sheffield, UK. After graduating he spent 3 years in the steel industry before returning to PM as Technical/Quality Manager for a UK-based hardmetal manufacturer. He then joined Hilti in 1996 and has worked continuously on the development of cutting materials, joining technologies and drilling/cutting/sawing systems, covering hardmetals, cermets, abrasives, diamond segments and polycrystalline diamond.
Within the EPMA, Steve is a member of the Board and co-chair of the EuroHM hard materials sectoral group.
